The new Archaeological Museum of Chania

The new Archaeological Museum of Chania, which opened its doors on 16th April 2022, houses the collection previously displayed in the old museum in Halidon Street, as well as the private collection of Konstantinos and Marika Mitsotakis, which the family donated to the nation. Built on a 12-acre site in the Chania suburb of Halepa. the 6,000 sq m building is strikingly modern in design, with spacious exhibition halls, a museum shop and a cafe.

The cafe, on the first floor, is now open and so far has a fairly limited selection of drinks and snacks. Hower, it is well worth a visit for the commanding view from its terrace of the city and the bay of Chania, from the Rodopou Peninsula to Akrotiri.
