This week marks the first anniversary of the opening of Chania’s new Archaeological Museum in Halepa, and the Museum has a series of celebratory events planned for this coming weekend, 21st-23rd April. Catering to all ages and tastes, they are as follows:

Friday 21st April
17:00: In the Amphitheatre of the Museum, screening of the documentary “Mourning Rock” by Filippos Koutsaftis, which follows the lives of some inhabitants of Elefsina over period of 10 years. Duration 87 minutes. Entrance free, prior booking required.
17:30: Guided tour (for 25 visitors) of the Museum’s collections by an archaeologist of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Chania. Duration 90 minutes. Prior application needed.
19:00: In the Atrium of the Museum, concert by students of the Music School of Chania. Duration 40 minutes. Entrance free.

Saturday 22nd April
12:00: In the Amphitheatre, screening of the film “Rocca changes the world” by Katja Benrath, about the life of an 11-year-old girl whose father is an astronaut. Duration 101 minutes. Entrance free, prior booking required.
14:00: Guided tour (for 25 visitors) of the Museum’s collections by an archaeologist of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Chania. Duration 90 minutes. Prior application needed.
16:30: Performance by the contemporary dance group Syn Kinisi. Concept and direction Sofia Falierou. Performers and co-creators Sofia Falierou, Ioulia Zacharaki, Lito Lazaridi, Marikita Lyroni, Afroditi Manakou, Magda Pateraki, Dimitra Berivaki. Duration 120 minutes. Entrance free.
17:30: Guided tour (for 25 visitors) of the Museum’s collections by an archaeologist of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Chania. Duration 90 minutes. Prior application needed.
18:00: In the Amphitheatre, screening of the documentary “The Archaeologist” by Kimon Tsakiri, which describes the efforts of a female archaeologist to save what she can before it is lost for ever in the waters of an artificial lake in Western Macedonia. Duration 90 minutes. Entrance free, prior booking required.
19:30: In the Atrium, breakdance show by the group The SouthBreakerz, with Manos Katsidiakis, Ioannis Protopapadakis and Sifis Kakavelakis – Flash Dance Studio. Duration 20 minutes. Entrance free.

Sunday 23rd April
11:00: In the Atrium, Musical Journey with the Chania Municipal Choir under the direction of Nikos Perakis with Afroditi Mitsotaki at the piano. Duration 60 minutes. Entrance free.
13:00: In the Amphitheatre, screening of the film “My brother chases dinosaurs” by Stefano Cipani – “a joyous and poignant family film about imperfection and diversity”. Duration 102 minutes. Entrance free, prior booking required.
17:00: In the Amphitheatre, screening of the documentary “Enthymion” (Souvenir) by Nikos Ziogas, “a lyrical documentary which is an elegy for the Epirus which is being lost and a hymn to the Epirus which survives”. Duration 78 minutes. Entrance free, prior booking required.
19:30: In the Atrium, Action set to music by the Passe-Partout group. Duration 30 minutes. Entrance free.
20:30: Western courtyard, Live set with the Argonauts and Nikos Katsikandarakis (aka Nicholas Vibes). Duration 120 minutes. Entrance free.
Booking for all the screenings in the Museum Amphitheatre is via an online booking platform which is announced on the Museum’s official social media pages on Facebook and Instagram. Those wishing to participate in the guided tours should express their interest on 695 201 1175 (Wednesday 19th April to Friday 21st April, 10:00 to 15:00). Places will be allotted on a first-come, first-served basis. Visitors will be required to pay the usual entrance fee for the Museum.
Entrance to the Museum exhibition spaces will be free to the public on Sunday 23rd April from 8:00 to 20:00
The events are being organised in collaboration with the Municipality of Chania/KEPPEDICH-KAM, Chania Film Festival, Dance Days Chania/Syn Kinisi, Argonauts, The SouthBreakerz, Passe-Partout, while the activities are being supported by the Chania Regional Unit of the Cretan Regional Authority.
