According to the Municipality: “The works for the creation of a new Open Mall at 1866 Square are proceeding at a fast pace and according to plan; the project comprises the renewal of a large area in the heart of the commercial centre of Chania. Following the revitalisation of the cross streets (Koraka, Kriari, Mylonogianni), the works are being extended to Koronaiou Street [on the opposite side of 1866 Square] and now to the remodelling of the square itself, with the same aesthetic and functional approach.

“The Technical Services of the Municipality of Chania and the contracting company are taking special care to cause the least possible nuisance to citizens and shopowners. The project entails the overall and functional remodelling of public space, and the securing of accessibility across the whole area and at every level of use of the commercial centre.”

The announcement asks for “the understanding of our fellow citizens for any nuisance which may be caused during the course of the works, and requests that passing motorists observe the emergency traffic regulations which will be in force at that point.”
