Chania MP Sevi Voloudaki was a participant in the 2024 Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, which took place in Washington on 17th-18th April.
During her presentation, the MP referred to the demographic problem, emphasising that it must be tackled with targeted policies and measures to counter the aging of the population, to secure adequate pensions which will remain accessible to future generations, to provide high-quality healthcare services and to counter youth unemployment, with policies which provide a balance between professional and personal life.
In particular, she stressed that a common aim must be to strengthen the position of women, so that they may contribute to politics, the economy, culture, and to society in general. Making special reference to the need for financial support to young people who wish to remain and work in regional areas, she also emphasised the need for funding both youth and female entrepreneurship.
Mrs Voloudaki also mentioned sustainable development, stressing that the protection of the environment, the dangers of climate change and the latter’s effects on our everyday lives constitute issues which now concern all governments, while they require comprehensive and coordinated efforts and policies for the productive use of resources, and responsible consumption and production.

Sevi Voloudaki, it will be remembered, is the widow of the Chania MP Manousos Voloudakis, who died unexpectedly of lung cancer on 8th February 2023 at the age of 57. Shortly afterwards, on 29th March she accepted the invitation of Kyriakos Mitsotakis to become a candidate for Nea Dimokratia in the forthcoming national elections. In the second round of elections held in June, she was one of three ND MPs elected, along with Dora Bakogianni and Alexandros Makrogiannakis.

Sevi Voloudaki participates in the Parliamentary Assembly of NATO; she heads the Hellenic Parliament’s Greek-French Friendship Group and is also a member of the Greek-Israeli, Greek-Armenian and Greece-Luxembourg Friendship Groups.
She studied Law at the University of Thessaloniki and subsequently obtained three postgraduate qualifications, in Community Law, Public International Law and Political Sciences, as well as a doctorate in Competition Law. In recent years she had worked as a legal adviser to large private-sector companies and in the public sector. She was a legal adviser to Nea Dimokratia and had also worked for the European Parliament. In addition to Greek, she speaks English, French and German.
