Tickets for the films at the Kipos Cinema in Chania can now be purchased online from the Ticket Services website. According to an emailed announcement from the Municipality’s culture website Chania-culture.gr:
“The Municipality of Chania, expanding its digital services for citizens, has begun online sales of tickets for the showings at the Kipos Summer Cinema through the Ticket Services electronic platform. Those who wish to can now purchase their tickets online at https://www.ticketservices.gr/event/cine-kipos-chania/.
In the interest of equal services for all, only 45 per cent of the tickets will be sold online, the remaining seats being available to all at the cinema’s box office.
“The Municipal Kipos Cinema has been in operation in the north-east corner of the Municipal Garden since 1912 and is the oldest functioning summer cinema in the world. In the Cine Kipos you will have a unique cinematic experience, in a green and cool environment, under the city’s starlit sky. It is an enchanting place to enjoy films for the young and old, for knowledgeable cinephiles as well as those seeking the latest blockbusters.

Normal entry: €5
Reduced: €2 (students, unemployed, families of three or more children, over-65s, disabled).
Foreign language films are shown with Greek subtitles. Children’s films are dubbed. All films are projected in digital format (Digital Cinema Package – DCP).

How to book
Ticket Services is an online platform which covers music, theatre, cinema and other cultural events throughout the country. Events can be searched for by artist’s name, venue and area as well as other categories. Although it has an English version, much of the information is still in Greek.
The page for the Kipos cinema gives a full listing of all the films, with a poster for each one and two links:
– “plirofories” (information) which provides a short synopsis of the film, with cast list etc, and a useful YouTube link to the trailer, and
– “eisitiria” (tickets).
Selecting the Tickets link gives access to an initial entry showing the film title, date and a colour code for availability, then a second link leads to the tickets menu – all the purchasing information is in English once the “EN” option has been selected.

The Municipality of Chania’s culture website provides listings of upcoming cultural events in Chania. It also sends out a regular email newsletter of the events for the coming month, which can be subscribed to via a link at the bottom of the homepage: www.chania-culture.gr.
