With their i-bike Chania initiative the Municipality of Chania are introducing a new system of electric bikes for free public use in the city. In a press release issued on 29th December the Municipality says:

The Municipality of Chania is proceeding with yet another important step in sustainable urban mobility, piloting, from 30th December, a new system of public electric bikes – i-bike Chania – which will replace the older system of conventional bicycles.
I-bike Chania aims to facilitate the daily movements of residents and visitors, offering an up-to-the-minute, environmentally friendly solution for our city, in conjunction with the services already being provided of peripheral car parks and electric buses. The base stations have been strategically placed close to municipal car parks or at central points, with the aim of providing an alternative means of transport to the motor car, with the concomitant reduction of noise and pollution in the centre of Chania.
The new electric bikes are stationed at 8 key points in the city: in Elena Venizelou Square (at the National Research Foundation “Eleftherios K. Venizelos”), in the Plateia Eleftherias (Dikastirion), at Markopoulou Park, at the car park of the Municipal Port Authority in Defkalionos Street, at the Kydon municipal car park in Peridou Street, at the Regina municipal car park in Nikiforou Foka, at the Kladissos Peripheral Car Park, and in Nea Hora at the end of Akti Papanikoli.

The maximum period of use at a time is 3 hours, and if this limit is not exceeded, use is free. If the time limit is exceeded there is a charge of €5 for each extra hour.
The bikes are easy to use via the i-bike Chania smartphone app, which is available on Google Play Store for Android phones and the Apple App Store for iPhones. Alternatively users can sign up online at https://chania.cyclopolis.gr/. where they will also find instructions for use and a map showing availability at each charging station.

Further information can be found on the Municipality’s website at https://www.chania.gr/ta-chania-mou/ibike/ibike.html, where there is also a QR code for downloading the app. For technical support users can phone 28218 21726 or email ibike@chania.gr
