Traffic restrictions on the VOAK

Major traffic restrictions have started this week, from Sunday 12th July, due to roadworks on two sections of the VOAK. Long-term restrictions are in place on the sections between the Mournies and Vamvakopoulo interchanges from 12th July to 12th October, while there are works east of Nopigia on the Kissamos-Kolymbari section for 6 nights, also from 12th July.

Mournies-Vamvakopoulo until 12th October
From 12th July to 12th October there will be narrowed traffic lanes on the section from km 0.5 at Mournies to km 1.8 at Vamvakopoulo (distances from Chania). At the Vamvakopoulo interchange and solely for vehicles travelling from Kissamos towards Chania:
— the exit from the VOAK to the Leoforo Kazantzaki will be closed
— the entrance to the VOAK from the Leoforo Kazantzaki will be closed.
Various lane closures were in force on Sunday 12th to allow the transfer of traffic signs and vehicles from one side of the highway to the other, for the second phase of work on what will be the Chania bypass for the new VOAK.

Nighttime works east of the Nopigia junction
From the evening of Sunday 12th July to the morning of Saturday 18th July, there will be alternating streams with traffic lights on the Kissamos-Kolymbari section of the VOAK, from km 30.7 to km 29.7 after the Nopigia junction. The works are a continuation of the road safety measures which have been installed by stages westwards from Chania.

In a separate note, Haniotika Nea states that drivers need to take special care at the Nopigia junction where there are now warning cones in the middle of the road and they will have to reduce their speed significantly.
