New Quantum Science Centre at FORTH

A Centre for Quantum Science & Technologies (QuTech) is being established at the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH) in Heraklion. The vision for FORTH-QuTech is for it to become a national and international point of reference in quantum science and technologies. This will be achieved by ensuring the continuous development of science, technology, expertise, and human capital, attracting high-quality scientific personnel and significant funding. This approach will also make FORTH a highly attractive destination for young talent.

Reading the clock of the heavens

On Friday 15th December, a sundial created by the sculptor Andreas Galanakis was unveiled at the entrance to the premises of the FORTH research foundation in Heraklion, in the presence of the president of FORTH, professor Netkarios Tavernarakis, and the director of its Institute of Astrophysics Vasilis Harmandaris. The sundial, which is named Alektryon, was donated to FORTH by the sculptor as part of the celebrations marking 40 years of the foundation’s existence, and will be on display at the entrance for the next 6 months.

Research foundation to expand in Chania

The biggest research foundation in Greece and one of the most important in Europe, the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH), is expanding into new premises in Chania. Two new buildings are to be erected on a site of 35 stremmata ceded to FORTH by the Technical University of Crete. One will house the Institute of GeoEnergy and the other a branch of the Science and Technology Park of Crete (STEP-C), which is devoted to technology transfer through the support of innovative spin-off companies, and the management and exploitation of intellectual property rights.
