Smart water meters come to Platanias

On Monday 13th November, a contract was signed at the offices of DEYAVA in Gerani for the installation of digital water meters throughout the organisation’s distribution network. With a budget of €4.7 million, the work is being jointly funded by the Public Investment Programme and the EU’s Cohesion Fund. The timescale for the programme is 5 months for delivery and 2 months for trial operation.

Overall the programme includes:
– The provision of 12,000 smart water meters which wirelessly transmit data, to replace the entire stock of water meters in the DEYAVA’s drinking water supply network.
– The provision, installation and operation of a system for taking qualitative and quantitative measurements at specific points on the supply network. This will comprise a total of 20 units to monitor pressure and 10 units to monitor Residual Chlorine.
– The installation of telecommunications equipment and software for the wireless transmission of data from the above units to the Central Monitoring Station.
– Expansion of the DEYAVA’s Central Monitoring Station to bring together all the data from the local units and their immediate processing to allow: the immediate and global presentation of water balances; management of the system in times of drought; data analysis for the management of water reserves; strategy planning; demand forecasting; and support for decision making and the operating rules of water resources.
– Provision of a smartphone app for the use of consumers.

On completion, the work will allow:
– Better overall management of drinking water supply and reduction in losses (consumption profiles will be created per residential unit, day, period, region etc).
– Decision-making based on secure and real-time data.
– Reduction in the time required for data collection, and minimisation of labour costs.
– The possibility of monitoring water consumption on consumers’ mobile phones.
– Timely identification of internal and external leaks in the networks.
– Significant upgrading of consumer support services.
– More accurate billing and charging.
– Continual monitoring of the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of the water supplied.

The planning, approval and tendering of the work was carried out by the Technical Services of DEYAVA. Commenting at the signing of the new contract, the president of DEYAVA’s management board Eftychis Mavrogenis said: “The digital transformation of DEYAVA is an irreversible process for the immediate future. We will not allow any opportunity to be lost. The implementation of the current contract, together with previous contracts which we have signed and are currently being implemented, namely for the provision of a telemetry system and the installation of a system for monitoring leaks, show that we are preparing for the future and that we are on the right road.”
