For the 10 days from 29th July to 6th August, the Chania Film Festival will be offering a selection of old and newer films in opening air viewings under the title Cinema Under the Stars, at the Kipos Cinema and elsewhere in the city. For the first time this year the programme will include a midnight showing at the Kipos Cinema, and there will also be showings at the amphitheatre of the Hellenic Mediterranean University in Halepa, in the heart of the Venetian Harbour, and at the Swimming Pool in Nea Hora. Details of the programme are as follows:

Monday 29th July at 21:30, “Sideways” directed by Alexander Payne. Venue: Kipos Cinema.
Tuesday 30th July at 21:00, “Bicycle Thieves” directed by Vittorio de Sica. Venue: Open Air Theatre of the Hellenic Mediterranean University, Halepa.
Wednesday 31st July at 21:30, “Time of the Gypsies”, directed by Emir Kusturica. Venue: Kipos Cinema
Thursday 1st August at 21:30, “Stray Bodies”, directed by Elina Psychou. Venue: Kipos Cinema
Friday 2nd August at 21:30, “Buena Vista Social Club”, directed by Wim Wenders. Venue: the Giali Tzamisi (Glass Mosque) in the Venetian Harbour [presumably in the square behind the mosque].
Saturday 3rd August at 21:30, “The Bee Keeper”, directed by Thodoros Angelopoulous. Venue: Kipos Cinema.
Saturday 3rd August at 23:59, midnight showing, “Final Cut: Ladies and Gentlemen”, directed by György Pálfi. Venue: Kipos Cinema.
Sunday 4th August at 21:30, “Night on Earth”, directed by Jim Jarmusch. Venue: Kipos Cinema.
Monday 5th August at 21:00, “Dolphin Man”, directed by Lefteris Haritos. Venue: the Swimming Pool at Nea Hora.
Tuesday 6th August at 21:30, “Boiling Point”, directed by Philip Barantini

Cinema Under the Stars is an umbrella title for the open-air showings being held under the banner of the Chania Film Festival throughout the summer and in different parts of the island. It includes showings in Chania, Platanias, Kandanos-Selino, Gavdos, Archanes, Rethymnon and Rokka.
