From Monday 12th August, the hours of operation of Chania’s first peripheral car park at the Kladissos junction west of the city are to be extended. According to a press release from the Chania city council, in view of the extensive use of the car park being made by visitors and residents alike, the time of the last bus from the city centre to Kladissos will be moved from 22:40 to 00.10. The electric buses will therefore be running every 20 minutes for 17 hours a day, with the first bus leaving Kladissos at 7:00 am and the last one leaving the city centre at 10 minutes after after midnight.

The change is clearly a response to the increased activity in Chania during the summer months, with many concerts and other cultural events being held which typically do not start until 9.00 pm or later. The new schedule will enable visitors to the city to attend such events or enjoy an evening meal without the pressure of having to make the “last bus home”. Although this press release does not mention this, it is fair to assume that the schedule may be restricted again in the autumn when there will be fewer evening activities.
The electric buses will continue to run six days a week, Monday to Saturday not including Sundays and public holidays, along the following route:
– departure from the Kladissos car park
– stop on Kissamou Street (Agios Νektarios – Monument to the Mother of Asia Minor)
– stop at the KTEL bus station on Kydonias
– stop on Hatzimichali Giannari (the Public electronics store, west of the Agora)
– Iconostasi stop on Kissamou (just south of the junction with Kydonias)
– terminus at Kladissos car park.
The route is being run in cooperation with drivers of the urban KTEL and passage is free regardless of whether one has parked at Kladissos or not.
