On Saturday 5th October, the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis had a working breakfast with a group of US Senators at his residence on Akrotiri. Taking part in the meeting were the minister of National Defence Nikos Dendias and, on the American side, Republican Senators Jerry Moran, Susan Collins, John Boozman, John Cormyn and John Hoeven, and the US Ambassador to Greece George Tsunis. The Senators are all members of Senate Standing Committees, including those on Appropriations, Intelligence and Energy.

Among the topics discussed during the meeting were the excellent level of relations between the two nations and Greek-American defence cooperation, as well as Greece’s role as a pillar of stability and security in the wider region.
The Prime Minister gave special emphasis to Greece’s role in the development of the “Vertical Corridor” – a project envisaged to connect the gas systems of Greece and eastern European countries so as to reduce European dependence on Russian gas – and its initiatives generally to improve the energy security of Europe.
There was also an exchange of views on international and regional issues, with emphasis on the most recent developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East.
