Road tax details for 2025 announced

Details of the vehicle road tax rates payable for 2025 have now been posted on the AADE website. The road tax must be paid by 31st December of this year. Vehicle owners can download a form which states the amount due and gives a payment code for payment at a bank or post office, by going to the AADE website at https://www.aade.gr/teli-kykloforias-horis-kodikoys-taxisnet

On that page, hitting the dark blue button which says Είσοδος στην Εφαρμογή (enter application) will bring up a form with three boxes to be filled in, from the left: ΑΦΜ (tax number), Αριθμός Κυκλοφορίας (car registration number) and Έτος (year). The year is selected via a drop-down menu. Selecting Εκτύπωση (print) will bring up the details for the year selected, while Καθαρισμός (clear) will clear the form. The vehicle’s tax status for the 6 previous years (if in the same ownership) can also be checked.

In principle, the same information should be available from the MyAuto section of the Gov.gr Wallet app, but at the time of writing it has not been updated to include the data for 2025.

The road tax rates for 2025 remain unchanged from 2024. However, the penalties payable for late payment have been changed, as follows:
– 25% of the tax due if payment is made by 31st January 2025
– 50% of the tax due if payment is made within February 2025
– 100% of the tax due for whole or partial payment from 1st March 2025 onwards

Vehicle tax rates
Passenger cars registered for the first time in an EU/EEA Member State up to 31st October 2010, and two- and three-wheel motorcycles irrespective of the date of their first registration in an EU/EEA Member State, are taxed on the basis of the cylinder capacity of their engines.

Vehicles first registered in an EU/EEA Member State from 1st November 2010 onwards are taxed on the basis of their CO2 emissions. These are calculated in accordance with the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) method for those registered up to 31st December 2020, and with the Worldwide Harmonised Light Test Procedure (WLTP) for those registered thereafter, as shown in the vehicle registration certificate.

The rules for electric and hybrid vehicles change from year to year, and owners who are unsure of whether or not they need to pay road tax should enter their details on the AADE web page, which will render a zero figure if no tax is to be paid.
