This week marks the revival of Andrea Fessmann’s Choir Workshop, which is being held for the second year running at the Viglia Beach Apartments just west of Kissamos. Participants are getting a week’s voice training and rehearsal of some well-known works by Mendelssohn and John Rutter, at the end of which they will perform them at a concert at the Stone Theatre in Nopigia.
Andrea Fessmann is a professional singer, choir leader and organiser who studied singing and its teaching in Munich and Italian Bel Canto in Vienna. After many years visiting Ravdoucha in the summer she decided to give amateur singers the opportunity to participate in a unique local event and has this year taken up residence in Afrata village for the summer season. There are 38 participants in this year’s workshop, from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, England and Crete, most of whom also attended last year’s event.
The concert, featuring the choir and accompanying musicians, will take place on Friday 5th September at 7.00 pm, at the Stone Theatre in Nopigia. (Turn off towards the sea front at the Nopigia junction of the VOAK, head north and then turn east along the sea front for some 500 metres.) Please note that it will start punctually, i.e. on North European rather than Greek time.
