The national grid maintenance company, DEDDIE, is undertaking substantial construction and maintenance works in the Chania and Platanias areas over the coming week and has issued the following timetable. (This edited list is reproduced from Haniotika Nea, and does not include some outlying areas. An updated list can be accessed at any time on the DEDDIE website at https://siteapps.deddie.gr/outages2public). The cuts start on Sunday in Chania, and on Monday in the Tavronitis area, later extending along the coast as far as Drapanias.

More drones for fire protection
With the increasing incidence of forest fires caused by the combination of heat waves and high winds, there is an increasing need for effective means of monitoring outbreaks and coordinating the response of emergency services. A critical factor in the spread of such fires is often the degradation of power lines which can causing arcing, further igniting the surrounding vegetation.

In the past, in addition to the unit cost per kilowatt hour, electricity bills were loaded with a plethora of extra charges with obscure names which left the non-Greek, and we suspect the Greek user baffled.
