Further to our two recent posts on the subject of the obligation of property owners to clear their land of extraneous vegetation before the start of the no-fires season, the government has now announced an extension of the deadline from 30th April to 15th June. This is welcome news since, apart from taking the pressure off property owners, it also is a reprieve for the many wildflowers which currently decorate the countryside and which are no doubt a haven for all kinds of wildlife and therefore contribute to the much prized biodiversity.

In detail, the press release published by the ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection states:
“By decision of the ministry for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection (Government Gazette B’2015/25 April 2025) there is an extension until 15th June for citizens to declare the clearance of building plots and uncovered spaces in their ownership, on the platform of the National Register for the Observance of Preventive Fire Protection Measures, which it is at the web address akatharista.apps.gov.gr, as well as on the website of the ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection at civilprotection.gov.gr.”
As a reminder, an explanatory note on the gov.gr website summarises the property owners subject to the measures as:
“1. The owners, occupiers, usufructuaries, tenants and sub-tenants of building plots and other unoccupied spaces which are in:
a) areas within approved planning schemes,
b) areas within settlement boundaries without approved planning schemes,
c) areas which are within a radius of 100 metres from the boundaries of 1 and 2 above, as notified by the responsible forestry services, and
d) sports grounds with buildings outside settlement boundaries, which are not subject to forestry regulations according to the local forestry maps and upon notification by the responsible forestry service.”
It also makes it clear that in the absence of an entry on the National Land Registry, property owners can simply enter the coordinates of their property, as stated on the topografiko:
“You will need to fill in
— your personal Taxisnet access codes
— the National Land Registry Code (KAEK) of the plot, or the coordinates of the plot if the latter is in an area where the Land Registry is not in operation (i.e. registration is described as in the process of development or being uploaded).”
