On Monday 10th November, the Ministry of Justice signed over the building which formerly housed the Magistrates’ Court (Eirinodikeio) in Kolymbari to the Municipality of Platanias for use by the municipality and local social organisations. At an announcement to the press the following day, the Deputy Immigration Minister and MP for Chania Sevi Voloudaki said that this was an issue which had been first raised with the then Justice Minister in 2021 [by her late husband, the Chania MP Manousos Voloudakis], but had ground to a halt. It had then been taken up again recently, initially with the Deputy Justice Minister Giannis Bougas and then the Minister Giorgos Floridis, resulting in the signing of a ministerial decision for the assignment of the building to the Municipality.

Platanias twinned with German town
A twining/cooperation agreement between the Municipalities of Platanias and Nieder-Olm in Germany was inaugurated during a visit in November to the German town, by a working team which included the mayor of Platanias Giannis Malandrakis and municipal officials, according to a press release posted on the Platanias website on 6th December.

The contract for creating a new reservoir at Plakalona, 10 km south west of Kolymbari, and the accompanying supply network was signed on 23rd January between the contractor and the Northern Axis Water Board (DEYAVA). The reservoir of 1,000 cu m, together with a 400 m connecting main, has a budget of €482,713, to be funded by the Public Expenditure Programme. The deadline for completion is 18 months, although it is expected that the project will be completed earlier.

Works to the value of €4,513,000 for renewing the pavements along the Old National Road between Platanias and Kolymbari have been announced by the Municipality. They will be funded through the Antonis Tritsis Regional Development and Solidarity programme for 2020-23. (Haniotika Nea, 20-04-23)

A project for the refurbishment and return to use of a historic footpath has been completed and handed over to the municipality of Platanias. With a budget of €95,000, the work related to a section of the path which for centuries connected the province of Selino with the city of Chania.
