As we reported in a previous post (https://kolymbaricourier.com/2023/04/23/renewal-of-pavements-in-platanias/), in April last year, the Municipality of Platanias announced that it had received funding for the much-needed renewal and creation of pavements along the Old National Road from Platanias to Kolymbari. Included in the project, which has a budget of €4,513,000, was a strip of land alongside Maleme airfield, which was to be turned into an amenity for the Municipality.

Battle of Crete 83rd Anniversary – the detailed programme
The Regional Unit of Chania has announced the detailed programme for the events commemorating the 83rd anniversary of the Battle of Crete. As previously announced, the RAF’s aerobatics team the Red Arrows will be participating in the events. However they will not be performing at the final ceremony at Maleme Aerodrome.

The RAF’s aerobatic team, the Red Arrows, will be participating in the events commemorating the 83rd anniversary of the Battle of Crete from 20th to 26th May. They will be flying over the Venetian Harbour in Chania where they last performed in 2011, having also given a display at Maleme in 2021. The provisional programme of events, which has still to be confirmed, is as follows:
Renewal of pavements in Platanias
Works to the value of €4,513,000 for renewing the pavements along the Old National Road between Platanias and Kolymbari have been announced by the Municipality. They will be funded through the Antonis Tritsis Regional Development and Solidarity programme for 2020-23. (Haniotika Nea, 20-04-23)
